just in case you were wondering who really orchestrated this mess
Can we take a moment to appreciate how well our flank defenders played today?
#never forget this kid was a forward #she scored 24 goals out of 35 appearances on the U20 team #then got dumped off the world cup roster because syd and alex were ready to go instead #finished playing at stanford instead of joining her teammates in the world cup #came into the senior national team as a forwar d#lost out to alex #got shuffled into being a fullback #and then played every. single. minute. of the 2012 olympics #and not only did she stay on the field that whole time #she did shit like this (this wasn’t the olympics i don’t think but regardless) and endured fouls beyond comprehension#and ended up becoming best friends with alex #whose position was the one she had wanted #and just #god damn #kelley fucking o’hara
sometimes i wonder if i like seeing a really good slide tackle more than a goal.
That was perfection
What a dork.
Cheney was left off the U.S.’s 2008 Olympic roster but was added as a last-minute replacement when Wambach broke her leg in the team’s final warm-up game. At home with her parents in Indianapolis, watching the game and packing to go back to UCLA for summer classes, Cheney saw Wambach get hurt. “She’ll be fine,” Cheney told her parents. Later that night, Wambach called Cheney from the hospital and told her to start running, because she was going to the Olympics.
And then they won the gold medal.
